Automated insurance claims-got you concerned?
Have you heard the hype about claims adjusters being “automated” out of work? This short excerpt from a recent article in Claims Journal Magazine has new and seasoned adjusters uneasy.
“Frankenmuth Insurance Introduces Photo-Based Estimating
Frankenmuth Insurance’s Michigan policy holders will now be able to take photos of vehicle damage and submit them for estimate creation, without the need for a physical inspection or shop appointment. The new service allows the insurer to deliver more efficient claim resolutions. Most claims that qualify for photo-based estimating can be adjusted in less than one business day”
Times are definitely changing, and we must “adjust” with the times. There will always be a place for the CAT adjuster due to the sheer volume of claims that come in and the time mandates placed on carriers by the States. The real shift will be for the multi-line adjusters that want to work for themselves from home.
So what can you do to insure survival in the industry? Claims adjusters should get as much training and education as possible. We recommend learning as much as you can about Xactimate. Submit your resume to as many staffing firms as possible, then follow up with phone calls. If you’re newer, align yourself with a seasoned adjuster for the hands on experience, whether on local or CAT claims. Forecasters predict the need for adjusters will increase as thousands of adjusters retire, being adaptable and willing to learn is your biggest asset! Don’t be scared, the need for adjusters isn’t going away.
