Adjusting – What does it take?

Are you wondering what does it take to become an insurance adjuster? You can search and find a lot of information online, about becoming an insurance adjuster. So much so, that we wanted to break it down to just the basics for you. If you decide to pursue a career in adjusting, there are certain qualifications that every adjuster must meet:
1. You must be over 18 years of age
2. Hold an adjuster’s license in your home state (if required)
3. Hold a valid driver’s license
4. Have a clean criminal history
The following qualifications are what we look for within our students. These skills, while not mandated by a state Department of Insurance are extremely important:
1. Knowledge of insurance policies and the ability to apply that policy to the loss
2. Proficiency in using the estimating software
3. Proficiency in basic computer skills and software knowledge
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Strong work ethic and the determination to succeed
6. Ability to put other’s needs before your own
7. Be highly organized and detail oriented
While the first four qualifications are “must haves” in order to enter the word of adjusting, the last seven skills are what will make the difference. In conclusion, you can “just” obtain your adjusters license, or you can become a really successful adjuster, it’s all up to you! IF you feel you have the knowledge and skills needed to be a successful adjuster, you will do well in this industry.
